A strategic reorganisation to grow
The Castellón Port Authority has approved a reorganisation of the terminals located in the North Basin with the aim of improving competitiveness, optimising space and gaining market share.
The measure, approved by the Board of Directors, responds to the need to adapt port operations to the new demands of maritime traffic and international trade, in an increasingly demanding environment in terms of efficiency, transit times and logistics optimisation.
This reorganisation will allow for a better distribution of concession areas, greater operational specialisation and more efficient management of cargo flows.
The reorganisation directly affects the terminals operating in the North Basin, Noatum and TMG, as well as the Centenario and Cerámica quays. Among the most relevant changes, a new berth for bulk carriers is gained — the main traffic at the Port of Castellón — and the unloading of solid bulk cargo directly at quay is now permitted at the Centenario Quay, strengthening operational capacity and the port’s specialisation in this type of cargo.

Greater efficiency and better use of infrastructure
The reorganisation of the terminals aims to:
- Optimise the use of quays and available surfaces
- Improve vessel call planning and operations
- Reduce operational interferences between traffic flows
- Increase response capacity during peak activity periods
In a context where transit times, logistics cost reduction and operational reliability are key factors for importers and exporters, any structural improvement in the port has a direct impact on the supply chain.
A more efficient terminal layout may result in:
- Lower risk of congestion
- Reduced waiting times
- Greater agility in loading and unloading operations
- Better coordination between terminals, shipping agents and logistics operators

Positive impact on the business community
The organisational improvement of the terminals is particularly relevant for exporters requiring regular and reliable maritime departures, as well as for importers who need predictability in the reception of their goods in order to properly plan their supply chain.
Greater port efficiency directly enhances the competitiveness of companies, especially in an environment where logistics costs, demurrage and detention control and proper documentation planning (Bill of Lading, customs clearance, coordination of inland transport) are decisive factors.
Consolidating the positioning of the Port of Castellón
The reorganisation of the North Basin forms part of a broader strategy to consolidate the port’s positioning as a key infrastructure in the Mediterranean.
The objective is clear:
- Gain market share
- Attract new traffic
- Improve operational efficiency
- Offer greater added value to the port community
A more flexible and better organised port is a strategic factor for the entire logistics chain, from shipment planning to final delivery.
